Composite Fillings – Restoring Tooth Structure and Aesthetics

Composite fillings, also called tooth-colored fillings, are used to repair teeth affected by decay, cracks, fractures, or other structural damage. They may also be employed for cosmetic purposes, such as reshaping or correcting minor imperfections.

Composite fillings are widely used due to their ability to closely match the natural color of teeth, making them suitable for visible areas, including front teeth. They provide durable restoration while maintaining a natural appearance.

Placement Procedure

Composite fillings are generally completed in a single appointment. Depending on the extent of the cavity and patient comfort, local anesthesia may be used. After any necessary anesthesia, the decay or damaged material is removed, and the tooth is cleaned and prepared. The composite material is then carefully applied, shaped, and polished to restore the tooth’s function and appearance.

Some sensitivity to hot or cold may be experienced initially but typically subsides as the tooth adjusts to the new restoration.

Outcomes are individual and may vary according to each patient’s circumstances.
